Bolzano [bo: tsən̩] (Italian Bolzano [boltsano] locally [boldzano], Bulsan Ladin [bʊlzan] or Balsan, Latin Bauzanum) is the provincial capital of South Tyrol, an autonomous province in Italy, and as such the headquarters of the South dtirol government and the South Tyrolean Landtag.
Since 1964 Bolzano is the seat of the bishop created diocese of Bolzano-Bressanone.
Bolzano is divided into five districts, in turn, several historic districts and formerly separate municipalities, or contain.
Incorporated the former rural communities Zwölfmalgreien (1911) and Gries (1925). These are still Katastralgemeinden own.

Provinzia Autonoma de Balsan - South Tyrol, is the northernmost province of Italy and, together with the Province of Trento, the autonomous region of Trentino-Alto Adige. Since the adoption of the South Tyrol package the country enjoys autonomy rights. The provincial capital of South Tyrol is Bolzano.
More than two-thirds of the population are German, about one quarter has Italian as a mother tongue and a smaller population in the area spoke Ladin Dolomites. The Ladin represent just four percent of the population of South Tyrol.
South Tyrol is also part of Europe member Tyrol region of Trentino-Alto Adige, which in essence the area Tyrol Crownlands the historical equivalent.
